Diving Longer: Our Enriched Air Nitrox Certification

March 17, 2025 โ€ข Certification โ€ข Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx 40%)

On March 17, 2025, Shawn and I completed our SSI Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx 40%) certification โ€” unlocking the ability to dive with longer no-decompression limits and reduced nitrogen exposure.

While this was a classroom-based course with no dives required, it marked a major step in our dive progression. We covered the physiology of oxygen exposure, dive planning with Nitrox, and the use of an oxygen analyzer to confirm mix percentages before a dive.

This specialty not only boosts safety โ€” itโ€™s also a cornerstone for deeper dives and liveaboard trips where back-to-back diving is common. It’s now our default gas mix whenever possible.

The training was provided again by Christina Burenga through Dive World Scuba – North. We completed the online learning, practiced analyzing tanks, and reviewed dive computer settings for Nitrox profiles.

With EANx in our toolkit, weโ€™re even better equipped for our upcoming dive trip to Cozumel and our newly earned Deep Diver cert. Bring on the bottom time!
